A t Baptcare, our Care Managers come from a
variety of allied health and nursing backgrounds
and are exposed to a breadth of opportunities --
no two days are ever the same!
Sarah Carrucan wanted a role which was chal-
lenging and varied. In search of a career which
offered the freedom to think outside the square,
her role as Internal Locum Care Manager has
given her the opportunity to make significant
positive change within the community.
Since her arrival at Baptcare in 2007, the Di-
vision 1 Registered Nurse has enjoyed a diverse
role including assessing the health and needs of
clients, visiting clients at home, coordinating re-
ferrals, maintaining client and family relationships
and managing budgets.
Fundamentally Sarah is responsible for im-
proving the overall wellbeing of the individuals
in her care.
Sarah has been encouraged to develop
projects outside her role which contribute to the
wellbeing of clients and carers.
"My position at Baptcare is quite unique and
I've really made it my own. I've been empowered
to research and engage in other activities outside
my role and as a result, I've been part of the
implementation of two social inclusion groups
for socially isolated elderly people. When I identi-
fied the need for more social wellbeing activities,
Baptcare was really supportive and were commit-
ted to helping my professional aspirations come
to life," said Sarah.
Since the birth of these groups -- the Coffee
Club and the Cooinda Group -- Sarah has been
thrilled with the positive response from the
"The participants in these groups have limited
interaction and have expressed an interest in
social activities. They are so happy to have an av-
enue for regular social interaction and the chance
to make new friends. It's been a really rewarding
experience. I'm grateful that Baptcare supports
us to be creative in the way we deliver care,"
Like Sarah, Belinda Benson wanted a role which
provided a vast range of fulfilling experiences.
"Baptcare is a forward-thinking organisation
that encourages its employees to proactively re-
spond to community need in a creative way. I've
felt that my input has made a positive difference
to the people that I care for and in return, I've
had the opportunity to engage in different tasks,"
Belinda also supports the Cooinda Group and
coordinates group sessions with Sarah.
"I feel like I've been challenged outside my role
and I've had the chance to take part in activities
which I'm passionate about. The work is really
rewarding and my role provides a lot of opportu-
nity," said Belinda.
Belinda enjoys the diversity her role has to
offer, most notably the autonomy and the team
spirit that comes when caring for others.
"It feels great that I'm making a positive differ-
ence in the lives of people who require additional
support to remain connected to their community.
I've had the opportunity to engage with various
types of clients whose needs may be diverse due
to their social, cultural or demographic situations.
We aim to provide individualised client outcomes,
based on their specific needs," said Belinda.
Baptcare is expanding its services and devel-
oping in new areas. As a result Baptcare is cur-
rently recruiting passionate and skilled individuals
to join the team. Visit www.baptcare.org.au
