The fastest growing segment continues to be Twilight Careers, those aged 63+. They now number 455,000 workers, with the
segment growing jobs at 10.3%. As Australia edges to full employment, there are going to be even more job opportunities for
these older workers.
The Boomers (aged 43-63) are still holding onto their jobs and are even starting to think more about the future as the GFC
passes. They remain the second biggest segment in number by far, at 3.8 million.
Generation X (aged 30-42) is still the largest segment, at 4.0 million. They had been feeling the pinch, with jobs for this
demographic quite static. But now, with vacancies rising, they are thinking more about the next opportunity and are becoming
less concerned about moving to fnd that better job.
The segment that was feeling the pinch was Generation Y. There are 2.9 million workers in this segment and their share of the
jobs had been steadily falling for years as the population aged and participation in education grew for this age group.
However, their job prospects have really started to improve.
